Information current as at July 2008
The Cultural Volunteers Coordinators Group (CVCG) was formed in May 2005 to encourage knowledge and information sharing between volunteer managers working in the cultural sector and to encourage best practice in volunteer management.
The group’s focus is twofold: addressing the specific needs of volunteers working within cultural organisations, and providing a support network for volunteer coordinators who manage these volunteers.
The CVCG defines ‘cultural organisations’ as those organisations that engage the public as they seek educational, cultural, arts and heritage experiences. Currently there are twenty six member organisations of CVCG including galleries, museums, libraries, recreation and tourism organisations, and keepers of heritage records.
Through the CVCG network, small and large cultural organisations benefit from the sharing of their respective experiences, documents, policies and training methods with other members of the group.
The CVCG meets every two months, and members collaborate in smaller working groups between meetings. Meetings are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, and run 2pm – 4pm.
Membership is free, and meeting venues and chairpersons are rotated, giving the opportunity to increase members’ knowledge of the cultural sector. It is expected that group members will attend a minimum of 2 meetings per year. A planning meeting is held annually to generate topics for each meeting during the following year.
