At the ‘Working together to shape the future of volunteering’ forum, the value of being part of a network of volunteering peers was extolled more than once. Apart from being great sources of knowledge and information for managers and co-ordinators of volunteers, members also give and receive support to and from each other. For some, who may be lone practitioners or who may be operating in isolation, coming into regular contact with others in similar situations professionally is of great help. Others are able to access professional development opportunities that are otherwise not available to them. Volunteering Victoria recognises the importance of network membership to volunteering practitioners and we support these groups' formation and growth. The volunteering networks form part of our support system too and we are strengthened by their existence. We have been approached by several people wishing to know more about the different networks that exist in Victoria. Some networks already have information publicised through our website and we are calling on the rest to send us their information, including details on –
We are inviting representatives from the different networks to be at our National Volunteer Week event on Wednesday, the 12th of May 2010. This will be a chance to identify the groups that exist in Victoria; learn more about who they are and what they do and of course, network with each other. We will soon be sending out invitations with details of the event so if you would like to represent your network, contact Elouise Holmes by This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
