Proposed changes to Victorian Equal Opportunity Act extends coverage to volunteers

Volunteers deserve at least the same protection as paid workers. The Brumby government has proposed amending the Equal Opportunity Act to cover volunteers.  Stakeholders need to also be aware that it will cover volunteers engaged by volunteer organisations as well.  This raises significant training and governance issues. Volunteering Victoria's information brief on the proposed changes is downloadable below. We urge you to read the brief carefully and give Volunteering Victoria feedback as we work with the Department of Justice to help them understand the implications of this change, and the challenges in  implementation.
