Ensuring digital content is accessible to people with intellectual and cognitive disabilities is often overlooked. This free, two-part online training will help your organisation improve the readability of your content and align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Participants will learn the key differences between Plain English (clear and concise writing for all audiences) and Easy English (simplified language tailored for people with low literacy or cognitive and/or intellectual disabilities).
Please note: This training is conducted over two sessions, with Part 2 to be held in the following week. By registering below, you are committing to both dates.

- Understanding terminology: Plain English vs. Easy English
- WCAG guidance for language accessibility
- Using common words and simple sentence structures
- Avoiding double negatives and complex phrasing
- Best practices for supporting people with cognitive and intellectual disabilities
- WCAG 2.2 updates and additional recommendations
Learning outcomes
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Recognise the differences between Plain English and Easy English
- Apply best practices to simplify written content for accessibility
- Align content with WCAG 2.2 language guidelines
- Improve information access and inclusion for people with cognitive and intellectual disabilities
