To support volunteer-involving organisations in this journey, we are proud to offer access to a suite of disability and inclusion training modules in partnership with EV Strengthening Communities.
These modules are designed to support volunteer managers, coordinators and leaders to better understand and embed inclusive practices in their organisations. The training is flexible and self-paced, offering valuable tools to create safer, more welcoming spaces for all volunteers – particularly those with lived experience of disability.
How to access the modules
Access to the Disability and Inclusion Training Modules is available to organisations based in Victoria, Australia only.
To complete the modules, organisations must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) form below.
Limited places are available, so be quick to avoid missing out!
Please note:
- Approved organisations will receive a unique access code, which must not be shared outside the organisation.
- The access code must be redeemed within one (1) month of issue.
- Once registered, participants will have access to the full suite of training modules until 30 April 2026.
About the modules
Module 1: Understanding Diversity & Inclusion
This module introduces key concepts of diversity in the workplace.
Participants will be encouraged to consider their own experience and intersections of diversity, as well as considering how they can contribute towards an inclusive workplace.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand what diversity and inclusion mean in the workplace context, and why it is important.
- Reflect on the multifaceted aspects of diversity.
- Be aware of what unique lived experience they might personally bring to the workplace.
- Understand unconscious bias and how it can manifest in the workplace.
Module 2: Disability Inclusion Contexts & Concepts
This module introduces concepts, contexts, and perceptions of living, working and volunteering with a disability.
Participants will be encouraged to relate disability to their personal and professional lives to understand the role of attitudes in fostering an inclusive workplace. Participants will assess whether their organisation’s readiness for inclusion and provides direction on the next steps.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the conceptual and contextual framework of what it means to ‘have a disability’.
- Reflect on traditional perceptions and to consider a contemporary lens of disability – society, workplace, and language/terminology.
- Understand current trends related to disability in volunteering and employment.
- Gain insight into what inclusion means and why it is important.
Module 3: Disability Inclusion Preparation
This module supports organisations in understanding how to prepare for and support volunteers or employees with disabilities.
Participants will explore different types of disabilities and consider how they align with roles in their workplace. The module also covers business requirements and available support structures for creating an inclusive environment. A workplace inclusion self-assessment is included to help guide the development of a Disability Action Plan.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the key components and considerations required for creating an accessible and inclusive workplace.
- Identify categories of disability and reflect on which classifications are likely to best suit the potential roles in their organisation.
- Become familiar with legislation and support structures associated with inclusive workplaces.
- Understand the status of their organisation in relation to being inclusive.
- Be introduced to a Disability Action Plan.
Module 4: Disability Inclusion Implementation
This module presents case studies of organisations who have committed to becoming more inclusive.
The featured organisations have taken steps towards engaging people with disabilities.
Videos and transcripts are provided to highlight the pathways, challenges, benefits and successes of implementing inclusive practices.
Learning outcomes:
- Learn from real life examples of inclusive workplace journeys.
- Understand how to build successful pathways for inclusion.
- Develop confidence to become more inclusive.
