This theme not only honours the contributions of volunteers but also encourages people across Australia to make 2026 the year they get involved and make a difference.
This year’s celebrations also coincide with an exciting international milestone. The United Nations General Assembly has declared 2026 the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026), highlighting the vital role of volunteers in advancing sustainability. National Volunteer Week 2026 will support IVY 2026 by amplifying the voices of volunteers and taking action to help volunteering thrive.
National Volunteer Week 2026 celebrates the commitment of current volunteers and invites everyone to discover how giving their time and talents can spark joy, and a deep sense of purpose.
More than just a celebration, National Volunteer Week 2026 is a call to action – make this Your Year to Volunteer and help create lasting, positive change.
Landmarks across Victoria are lighting up RED – the colour of volunteering – in honour of National Volunteer Week! If you’re out and about throughout the week, keep an eye out for the following spots.
Know other community landmarks that could get involved? Contact us and let us know!
Note: Some landmarks may be illuminated orange on Wed 20 May, in celebration of Wear Orange Wednesday and Victoria’s SES volunteers.
National Volunteer Week resources are produced by Volunteering Australia, including digital resources and key messaging for you to share in the lead up to and during National Volunteer Week.
Resources include logos, e-cards, certificates, invitations, posters, social media images, email and web banners, and printable selfie frames. These can be accessed on the Volunteering Australia website linked below.
